Belly wraps and Tummy compressions have been praised for flattening and firming the tummy, but is it more of a success of a scam? Although people may rave about this fat trimming treasure, women should be more aware and informed before buying into all this commotion. As a matter of fact, some doctors suggest that belly wraps are less of a hit and more of a hype.

“Belly wraps help you get back into shape.”

REALITY 

Belly bands or Tucking belly Compressions may help you look better when you’re in your clothes, but it won’t necessary make you feel better when you’re out of them.. There is no evidence to prove that belly bands or tucking compressions improve the size and shape of a women’s stomach. It may help to improve posture, but it won’t necessarily make you  slimmer.

REALITY

Belly wraps and compressions that aim to “Tuck” your mid section,  will never substitute for exercise and a healthy diet. If you are not burning more calories than you’re consuming, chances are, you will never return to your pre-pregnancy figure. A nutritious diet paired with proper exercise is the key to reshaping your body. Belly wraps will only give you the illusion of a smaller tummy. If you do not put in the work, you will not get your desired results.

REALITY

Believe it or not, most doctors are skeptical about the use of belly wraps or belly compressions. In order to lose weight, women must strengthen and target core muscles and sometimes, belly bands may prevent that. Studies have shown that you use less of your abdominal muscles when wearing wraps therefore you burn less calories than you would without it. Moreover, stomach wraps reduces your ability to properly work out and it takes away from the impact of your overall exercise. Fitness professionals reject the claim that these belly wraps compressors are the fastest way to weight loss after pregnancy.  They argue that these products merely give hopeful moms a false impression. Instead of investing your money in a product, you’re better off investing your time focusing on a healthy diet and exercise. Use your money wisely and join a gym or hire a personal trainer.

Although belly wraps may not be extremely expensive, it is not a “one size fits all” kind of deal. Women must go out and purchase different size belly wraps as their girth changes size. Ranging anywhere from $20-$60, these purchases will add up! Although you may think belly wraps are cheap, you may find yourself paying more than what you bargained for. So instead of opting for a quick fix, think long term. May this New Year resolution about committing to a realistic exercise program, approved by your doctor that is custom made to work for your body. Achieve for your personal best!
