Juicy Facts during Pregnancy

If you are mom to be you have probably been receiving all kinds of advice on how to stay healthy during pregnancy. Although this is advice is probably well intentioned, it can make planning a nutritious diet very confusing. You may have heard that drinking juice while pregnant can put you and your baby at risk. But this is not entirely true. Juice is only a dangerous when it is unpasteurized. Unpasteurized juice can put you at risk for dehydration and birthing complications because it contains bacteria that can cause food-borne illnesses. However, don’t let this frighten you too much.  As long as you stick with pasteurized juice, juice can actually become a staple in your pregnancy diet.

Prenatal- juice during pregnancy

During pregnancy your nutrition needs are changing, and you will be eating for two. One diet essential moms should enjoy while pregnant is Vitamin C. As a pregnant woman you are encouraged to consume 85 mg of Vitamin C everyday. It is an important nutrient because it provides you and your baby with increased immunity aids in a healthy development. Pasteurized juice can be a great way to meet this need in a delicious way.  Pasteurized juice is labeled as such, and it is commonly found in cartons or concentrates. Choosing to drink pasteurized juice while pregnant will promote the health of you and your baby.

If you enjoy drinking fruit juice you might want to also consider drinking vegetable juice. Vegetable juice will add plenty of Vitamin A to your diet, which is another important nutrient during pregnancy. Broccoli juice, carrot juice, and lettuce juice are all options that might be worth considering.  These can be a nice way to mix up your diet and it will provide you with more healthy options to choose from. As you can see constructing a healthy diet during pregnancy doesn’t have to be complicated.
