Thanksgiving is one of the best days of the year; delicious food, friends, and family, what’s not to love? While you may associate Thanksgiving with the guiltless feasting of sweet potatoes, stuffing, and pie, it is important to remember that the purpose of Thanksgiving is to reflect on all of the things in your life that shouldn’t be taken for granted. In your hectic life, it is often easy to forget about how lucky you are. Between juggling kids, a family, a career, a social life, and barely getting enough time for just you, you may forget that you have a lot that not everyone is fortunate enough to have. Here are a few things to think about during your Thanksgiving Weekend.

 Family Thanksgiving

Your Frustrations are Your Blessings

It really is funny how much we take for granted. There is a reason why #FirstWorldProblems is one of our country’s most popular hashtags. The daily annoyances in your life are probably annoyances others would be happy to have. Your child is too hyper and giddy to go to bed on time. You gained a pound from going a little brunch-crazy. Your laptop crashed before an important work presentation. Instead of thinking “my kid is a pain in the butt, I’m getting fat, and my day at work is screwed up” think “my kid is happy and healthy, I have plenty of food to eat, and I am employed, in a position to give an important presentation, and can afford a laptop in the first place”. This is not to say that these troubles aren’t frustrating, but remember that there are always people less fortunate that would be thrilled to have your frustrations.

You Have Somewhere to Spend Thanksgiving

It is easy to get caught up in family drama- no one’s family is perfect. Instead of worrying about how your brother may make an offensive joke, your mother might offer some unsolicited advice, or your sister-in-law is still holding a grudge from a month ago, remember, your family probably wouldn’t be normal if you didn’t have these worries. Instead of picking apart your family’s imperfections, realize that some people don’t have families to spend Thanksgiving with at all. You are lucky to have a place to go, surrounded by people who love you, despite disagreements, and try to make that the main focus of your day. If you aren’t spending the holiday with your family, instead of sulking about how your family isn’t around, or is too far away, be thankful that you have friends that want to spend the holiday with you- even if you are only having a take-out dinner with a girlfriend or your partner, you have someone in your life who loves you enough to want to include you in their holiday.

You Are Doing the Best You Can

You are only human; you are probably constantly doubting yourself. Are you a good mother? Is there something you should be doing to make your partner happier? Does your job sound impressive enough? Thanksgiving is a day to shush that little voice that tells you that you should be doing more. Your family is happy, you have a roof over your head, you are surviving. Be thankful for the fact that even if you don’t have everything in the world, you have enough. You wouldn’t be where you are now if you were totally screwing up, so obviously, you are doing your best, and that is good enough.

Your Heart is Beating

Most importantly of all, be thankful that you are alive and healthy. And you are also keeping your family healthy and happy. Sometimes in the craziness of life, it might slip your mind that you are lucky to be on this planet, and that so many people- your friends, your family, and your coworkers are thankful to have you in their lives.

Bravo. Bravo. Bravo for this posting. I agree with every sentence. I’m very thankful for my life, for my family and for what God have blessed me with. I raise my hands to heaven and thank the all almighty for everything he does for me everyday. I’m healthy, I have a roof above my head, I’m blessed to eat anything I desire, I have a loving husband, parents,an amazing daughter and another one on the way. What else could I ask for. “Money”. No that’s not my main priority, money will come at some point with our hardwork and God have always provided for our family. So money it’s definitely not my main wish because how many people out there have all the money in the world, all these louboutin,Pravda and Ferrari but probably don’t have health, family or even happiness within. So I’m so great full for the shoes I’m in. Happy thanksgiving everyone. Be thankful for what you have and for what God have blessed you with!!!!!!
