Feeling a bit off-balance? During pregnancy it’s common to feel wobbly during the third trimester. Your body weight is shifting and hormones such as relaxin cause you ligaments to prepare for labor. Your muscles are softening which may affect your joints that are important for balance. As your weight shifts so does the body’s center of gravity. Your weight will move upward and forward and can cause clumsiness and lower back pain. The change combined with added weight can give you the case of the clum-sies. You may experience a lack of normal coordination and agility. It’s common and more importantly, not forever!
During your third trimester avoid activities that cause you to feel off-balance. Listen to your body. It may be telling you to slow down. Kick it down a notch while playing your favorite sport. This is not the time to aim for perfection. It’s not the end all to minimize your activity level for a few weeks. You’ll have the rest of your life to go back to rigorous activities. So enjoy this time and accept the art of rest and relaxation.
